overview
purge is a time-limited social connection app. we built purge around a simple idea: genuine connections happen in the present, not through curated highlight reels. because of that, privacy isn't an add-on for us — it's core to how the product works.
this policy explains what information we collect when you use purge, how we use it, and most importantly: how we get rid of it every 24 hours.
what we collect
when you create an account and use purge, we collect:
basic profile information — your name, age, and gender identity
your daily photo — a single photo taken or uploaded each day
your location — approximate location to show you people nearby (not stored permanently)
your preferences — who you're looking for, age range, distance radius
interaction data — swipes, matches, and messages you send within the app
account credentials — your email address and encrypted password, or third-party sign-in tokens
device identifiers — for push notifications (if you opt in)
we do not collect your contacts, access your camera outside of the photo upload flow, or track you across other apps or websites.
how we use it
we use your information only to operate purge. specifically:
to show your profile to nearby users who match your preferences
to show you other users' profiles in your feed
to record swipe decisions and create matches when both users like each other
to enable in-app messaging between matched users
to send push notifications about new matches or messages (if enabled)
to enforce community guidelines and prevent abuse
we do not sell your data. we do not use your data for advertising. we do not build behavioral profiles.
data retention — the daily reset
this is the part that makes purge different. every night at midnight (ireland standard time), our systems automatically and permanently delete:
all photos uploaded that day
all matches created that day
all messages sent that day
all swipe records from that day
this isn't archiving or anonymizing — it's deletion. the data is removed from our database and from our storage provider. your permanent account information (name, age, preferences, email) is retained as long as your account is active, and deleted when you delete your account.
third-party services
purge uses the following third-party infrastructure:
supabase — our backend infrastructure provider, handling database storage, file storage, and authentication. supabase is gdpr-compliant and processes data on servers in the eu.
expo / eas — used to build and distribute the app. they do not have access to user data.
apple / google — if you download from their stores or use their sign-in, their privacy policies apply to those interactions.
we do not integrate with advertising networks, analytics platforms, or social media trackers.
your rights
depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal data including the right to access, correct, or delete it. within purge, you can:
edit your profile information at any time
delete your account — which removes all your permanent data immediately
opt out of push notifications in your device settings
